Acclaimed by critics and audiences throughout the UK, award-winning actor George Dillon is presenting an unforgettable vision of Jesus in churches across Brighton, London and the South East during Lent this year as he performs a highly intense, very human and occasionally humorous solo staging of his own translation of the first Gospel, by candlelight, with 25% of the ticket sales going to support local homeless charities.
Experience a stunning, virtuoso delivery
of the greatest story ever told…
as Jesus’s followers first heard it…
in a darkness illuminated purely by candlelight and the Word!!
Inspired by an encounter with Bob Geldof at Euston Station, created in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, and short-listed for The Stage’s ‘Best Actor’ Award in Edinburgh, Dillon’s epic, impassioned performance portrays Jesus not as a meek and mild lamb to the slaughter but as a contemporary raging fighter for God.
Since the première at the Brighton Festival in 2002, Dillon has performed The Gospel of Matthew nearly 150 times in theatres and churches in the UK, including three runs in Edinburgh and appearances at the Greenbelt, Soul in the City and Pentecost festivals as well as in Canada, Poland and Bermuda.
“A mesmerising one-man show of sheer brilliance!“ The Argus
“Has a visceral, biting, colloquial power that is quite stunning.“ The Stage
“The radical message has never sounded so revolutionary, straight-forward, obvious and utterly sensible!“ The Scotsman
The Church of England News has also approved the show, declaring that “Dillon brings out levels of meaning rarely heard in pulpits“ and it has been filmed for Scottish TV and featured on Songs of Praise and on the cover of Salvation Army newspaper The War Cry.
At our recent Advent wreath–making several people were not sure of the symbolism of the wreath or how it can be a really useful way of bringing us back to the real focus of this season. So here are a few thoughts but please look online for more; there are lots of children’s and families’ activities for Advent.

November’s Samaritan’s Purse Shoe Box Appeal – A Thankyou Message from Lauren: “I would just to like to say a very big thank-you, to all of you, for your wonderful support of the Christmas Shoe Box appeal. The response has been amazing! We have collected approximately 150 filled boxes which will soon be sent to children around the world in time for Christmas. I would also like to say a very big thank-you to those of you who made a donation. We were able to fill six shoe-boxes with exciting gifts for both boys and girls across the different age groups. It has been fantastic to see and hear how much you have all enjoyed filling your boxes. I had lots of fun filling mine! So, thank you all once again for taking part and for sharing the Good News of Jesus with children all around the world.”
