Ride and Stride 9th September 2017

Ride and Stride 2017 – 9th September

Ride and Stride is fast approaching; and St Mary’s has recently received a grant of £10,000 from the Sussex Historic Churches Trust, so it would be great to have a big turnout for this fun event…There are lots of options, including: participating as a (sponsored) walker or rider; manning the church; or simply sponsoring one of our riders/walkers or those manning the church.  Please do sign up on the sheets at the back of church and pick up the information leaflets there.  For more information please contact Simon Briggs via the church office.

Riding or striding…This year, you can join Simon for either a short tour of the participating churches in Horsham, and for the more active, a wider ranging route taking in Nuthurst, Partridge Green, Shipley, Coolhurst and Billingshurst; or make up your own route…

…or toddling 2017 also brings another exciting and innovative option – a sponsored toddle for our younger members (and Guy, apparently).  We’ve devised a short 30min circuit that takes in 6 churches around Horsham town centre.  Contact Jo Parry via the church office.

Manning St Mary’s

Volunteers are needed please to man the church on the day of the Ride and Stride event.  There’s a rota at the back of the church, split into one hour slots.  Please try to find an hour to support this valuable endeavour and sign up on the sheet.  The requirements are very straightforward – just logging riders/striders in.  if you can help for an hour, please add your name and contact number in the appropriate time slot

The money

Notwithstanding the great recent fund raising efforts, and the SHCT grant, we still face a huge challenge maintaining our lovely buildings, and every penny raised really helps – don’t forget, the money raised by our members is split 50/50 between St Mary’s and SHCT, so we benefit twice – first from the funds raised; and secondly, by supporting SHCT, we hope to access their grants; and the recent grant was made to us, acknowledging our support over the years for the Ride and Stride event

St Mary’s Birthday Party 10th Sept 9.30am & 11.30am

Dear friends

We are celebrating our Church “Birthday Party” at St Mary’s on Sunday, September 10th and do hope you are able to come to the special anniversary 9.30am All Age Service or our 11.30am Kairos service (informal service for young children and their families).  All young families are most welcome to join us and we are especially inviting everyone who has been baptised at St. Mary’s in the past few years.

The 45 minute informal Kairos service will include a short interactive talk by special guest speaker Ishmael for the children and a presentation about the activities for young families (including the new term beginning at “THE LIGHTHOUSE”, our exciting St. Mary’s Sunday Clubs for children and young people).  All who have been baptised, their parents & godparents will be prayed for.

Birthday Cake will be served before the service – from 10.45am.  Do phone the church office if you have any queries (01403 253762) – but there’s no need to RSVP … we just look forward to seeing you!

With love and prayers on behalf of all at St. Mary’s

Advent Wreaths

At our recent Advent wreath–making several people were not sure of the symbolism of the wreath or how it can be a really useful way of bringing us back to the real focus of this season. So here are a few thoughts but please look online for more; there are lots of children’s and families’ activities for Advent.

St Mary’s Vision Day – 3rd July 9.30am-3.30pm

As we prepare for St. Mary’s Vision Day on Sunday July 3rd, let us pray for God’s loving
wisdom and power, to serve and transform our growing church and town for His glory:
“Heavenly Father, we ask you to guide us each step of the way, as we seek your will
for St. Mary’s together – that we may be more and more truly “a church inspired by God’s
passion for the world”.  As we listen for your voice, may we recognise your promptings,
and respond to your will alone through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.”
Monday 27th June 7.45pm – 9.00pm Prayers for Vision Day at St Mary’s
All welcome for all or part of this evening of prayer.
Sunday 3rd July 9.30am – 3.30pm St Mary’s Vision Day
All welcome to a prayerful process of listening and sharing (through worship, presentations
and small group discussion) that begins to discern what God’s priorities are for mission and
ministry through St. Mary’s during the next 5 years.
Bring and share lunch, special children’s and young people’s groups.
