Christian Stewardship calls us to offer our time and talents for the work of the church locally. You are invited to consider prayerfully what you can offer to and through the ministry at St. Mary’s.

Roles that are most in need of extra help:
Creche helpers – 9:30am service
What is required: Helpers to set out toys, welcome parents & children, play with children aged 0-3 in the side chapel during the 9:30am service until Communion, and clear away toys. We also need one person to manage the rota of helpers
Frequency: Helpers are on duty approximately twice per term depending upon numbers

Baptism visitors
What is required: ambassadors for St. Mary’s to visit prospective baptism families in their home (one visit) to get to know them & explain more about Baptism (& St. Mary’s for young families), accompany them to a Kairos service, & attend the Baptism. Training to be given.
Frequency: c. 3 times/year

Coffee servers – 9:30am service
What is required: Helpers to arrive c.9:00am, set everything up and brew flasks of coffee. Skip the final hymn to put tea in pot etc, then serve coffee, chat and finally clear up
Frequency: Once every 6 weeks

Sidesmen for 8:00 and 6:30 services
What is required: People to welcome and assist worshippers to church, hand out books, count communicants, take the collection, collect up books and tidy pews etc.
Frequency: Alternating between the 2 services, on duty once every 3 weeks

Church Stewards – in midweek
What is required: People to sit in church (eg. with a friend),to welcome visitors and communicate with them as required
Frequency: Need to commit on a regular basis (eg. 1 hour per week, or per fortnight)

“TGI Fridays” Helpers
What is required: Adult helpers for our Friday night youth club for 12 – 16 year olds : to get to know them, supervise games such as table tennis, run tuck shop etc.
Frequency: As often as possible during term time; Friday nights from 7:30 – 9:00pm

Office Volunteers
What is required: Ambassadors for St. Mary’s to warmly welcome our many callers & give them practical admin help (& assistance to the Church administrator). Also photocopying and dealing with phone calls. Training given - computer knowledge useful but not essential.
Frequency: Weekly or fortnightly, 2 to 3 hour shifts during the hours of 9am to 2pm weekdays (or 10am to 12noon Saturdays).

Environmental Action
What is required: Members of a new team (reporting to our Serving & Transforming the Community MAP team) that will put care of God's creation into action, within & through St. Mary’s, and communicate a Christian perspective on the environment
Frequency: Initial meetings to agree and plan activities approximately every 6 weeks

Drivers for Hospital Visits
What is required: Volunteers to visit members of our church family who are in hospital (as coordinated by our Pastoral Visiting team) or to drive people to visit relatives/friends in hospital. We also need drivers to take those who don’t have their own transport to hospital or doctor's appointments.
Frequency: By request and subject to the individual driver’s availability.

Church Cleaners
What is required : people to clean the interior of the church, to the glory of God.
Frequency: this work is done weekly.

Thursday Coffee morning
What is required : more help to set up tables at 10am, set out cups make tea/coffee for 10:30. Welcome people, wash up and clear tables.
Frequency: on Rota basis

Members of Worship Orchestra/Band
What is required : Instrumentalists (Grade 4 & above) of any age, to play eg. at All-age Eucharists and Kairos services
Frequency : One or two services a month

Other roles that are also in need of help:
Social Events organisers
What is required: People to join a hands-on & creative team in planning and facilitating social events for all ages. Also arrange refreshments for special services as needed (eg All Saints Service, Deanery Evensong, Confirmations, Carol Services, etc). Enthusiasm, ideas & practical skills very welcome.
Frequency: 3-6 Meetings and events per year

Pastoral Visitors
What is required : pastoral visitors who call on the housebound and others as requested, to offer company, conversation and prayer. Visitors receive guidance via a training course before commencing their ministry.
Frequency : as required/agreed in each case, but usually fortnightly to monthly.

Choir members
What is required: Men, women and children to sing in the choir. Must be able to sing in tune but do not need to be budding solo artistes!
Frequency: Need to attend choir practice on Wednesday nights (7:00 – 8:10pm for children; 7:30 – 9:00pm for adults) and commit to at least 1 service on Sundays when not away

Flower Arrangers
What is required: Helpers to check and rearrange flowers at weekends and tidy up where necessary. Particular flower arranging skills are not required – just a love of flowers
Frequency: Flexible – up to a maximum of once every 3 or 4 weeks at the weekend, plus additional help for festivals

Bellringers
What is required: People of any age to ring church bells; either those with previous ringing experience or complete beginners
Frequency: Practice on Tuesdays (7.30 - 9.15pm) and Sunday service ringing at 8.45 - 9.30am and 6.00 - 6.30pm
